One of the careers in the Philippines today which experiences great dilemma in terms of employment is NURSING career. This July, there will be an additional batch of Philippines nurses after the releasing the nursing board exam result . So what awaits them exactly? Future nurses have come to spend their so much time and effort on duty and sleepless nights during reviews before taking board exams. Nursing forum has been talking about where these ‘future’ nurses could actually use their expertises in, but most of the answers are leading them to just go abroad instead of staying in the country.
Recently, news has it that nursing shortage has been a growing concern in our country. Well, their questions “Why is it happening, why are they all going abroad, why are there underemployed nurses in the country?”, and many other are truly difficult questions to answer.
Well, Philippine nurses have become very dependent on overseas nurse recruitment. Some perhaps are just too tired of dealing with the ill health system of our country. Imagine, here in the Philippines, registered nurses have to work as professional volunteers in a hospital. And to be so-called professional, they have to pay for the title. They have to pay to the hospitals to become volunteers. Every nurses struggle on the ‘volunteer’ slots to be able to gain experience and become qualified enough for more incoming opportunities. So, where lies the competence? It is not even an excuse for them to get hired without salaries, not even an allowance. On the other note, why does the system have to let them pay instead? Isn’t that being abusive? I feel so sad that our nurses have come to that plight.
After hurdling in years of studies, we are proud to finally see our friends and relatives graduating from college. But If by now, fresh graduates are thinking that studying is way easier than looking for a job, then, they must be mistaken. The real dilemma of unemployment is just about to embrace them. Eventually, our country has truly become the ‘factory of nurses’. I can’t be more proud because of this. I just hope that these nurses have someone to fight for them against this plight for the unhealthy health system of our careless government. Good luck to all fresh graduates! Good luck to registered nurses! Good luck to the Health system of the Philippines!
